Tea for Two or Just You

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

inv_teapot_textThe chill of January is upon us all. Even those of us out west are feeling the drop in temperature and the days can’t get longer fast enough. The fires are burning and the tea is brewing.

Years ago, I came across the neatest teapot gift that I'd like to share with you. Blooming teas are made and sold by a little company in Georgia, Rariteas. You just have to see it to believe how beautiful these teas can be. The blossoms open when the steaming water is poured over them, into the glass teapot that comes with your teabags.

I think it's the perfect gift for someone to show how much you care and give them a little treat to enjoy with a friend or just by themselves.

The Letters from Lilly teapot design comes with flowers too. Even though our flowers are painted and not real, like those from Rariteas, you can still send it to bring friends together.

There is a Garden Party Coming Soon

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Spring is fighting to come into the yards and gardens this year, but I am told that even you in the Midwest and note_pinktableandchairs_texteast will find sunshine and warmth someday soon.  Until that day arrives, warm yourself with thoughts of entertaining your little girl in your own magical garden.

There are some fabulous ideas out there to get your ideas flowing for making up your own special day or making a special day even more special.

Here are some of my own ideas that I have used in the past.new-picture-1

- Use small tables of four to encourage guests to get to know one another.

-Print place card names on both sides so that names are easy for everyone to read .

-Use all white linens and all pink flowers so that your floral arrangements really pop.

-Tie your teacups with pretty grosgrain ribbons with polka dots, stripes and plaids…all the same colors but different patterns.

-Put a candy surprise in the teacup.

-Print tiny cards with a “did you know” about the guest of honor. Scatter them on the tables for conversation starters. Things that makes her wonderful like “Did you know Sarah ran her first 5K this year!”

-Get pretty keepsake containers and fill them with pink, white, fuchsia jellybeans for the guests to take home.

I hope this sparks some creativity in you. Our pink table and chair design would be perfect for the occasion you and I are planning together (above). Remember to email me a photo of your tea party so I can share it with our readers.

Royal and Magical Creature

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

enc_seahorse_text Who has thin skin and blushes bright colors when hanging around their friends?

Need another hint? Okay.

Who is like no other, having a crown so distinct that it is as different as one fingerprint to the next?

I’m not referring to the royal wedding here. Give up?

A seahorse.

To me a seahorse is as magical as a unicorn. They are such a fragile, quiet little creature that they don’t seem real in our world.

Fifty species of seahorses fill our seas. Strange they are in the fish family since they swim upright. They really aren’t very good swimmers. Seahorses just bob along in shallow, tropical waters and coral reefs. They are as small as an inch and as large as 12 inches. The tiny eyes they have are independent of one another and  rings are in place of bones inside their S shaped bodies. Their fragile body make up doesn’t even seem strong enough to endure the oceans.seahorse1

The males tend to stick around their natural habitat keeping well within one single square meter while the females will wander 100 times that distance. It’s a good thing the males stick around since they are the ones who carry and have the babies. It’s true. After courting for a few days, the females deposit over 1,000 eggs into the pouch of a male where they stay for anywhere from nine to forty-five days. When they are ready, fully developed seahorses emerge, ready to care for themselves. By the next morning, the male is ready to carry another batch.

Now that’s efficient! They are beautiful little creatures for sure, which is why we include them on each an every stationery item we offer. With summer coming up, they are the perfect design to choose for stationery notes or party invitations.

We have a Sensitive Relationship

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

inv_pottedorchid_textOrchids are a sensitive subject to me. I have two beautiful orchids in my home right now. They were both gifts from dear friends, as I would never dare to purchase one for myself.

One is a stellar, white orchid donning seven perfect blossoms down it’s stem. The other is a yellow and red beauty that looks as perfect as the day it was delivered to me. See it in the picture below?

Both of them were gifts during Christmas. My secret is this; I’m afraid of them. Yes, I can hardly look at them. I have to steal glances of their perfection because if I even look at them, they will die.

I have a friend in San Francisco (who will remain nameless, but you know who you are) who has given me fabulous orchids and I’d tend to them,img_3253 but not often, knowing that they like to be left on their own.  I did invest in the special food for them. I kept track of when they might need the food or a tiny bit of water. They always died. She’d come to visit and I’d have lots of pots of green leaves, no flowers. I visit her and see her lush, amazing orchids with friendly blossoms dripping down their stems.

Why can’t I make an orchid bloom again? And with this being true, why are these two still living? I think because I do nothing to them. I have never fed them. I have never watered them. I have never even touched them. I only look at them when I am walking past them and even then, I walk quickly.

This weekend I’m going to San Francisco to see this friend. She’s taking me to The San Francisco Orchid Society’s Pacific Orchid Exposition. I’m very excited. I’m going to stare at all the orchids. I’m going to take pictures and dare them to die on the spot. I’m going to try to learn something about these fragile, mysterious flowers that are so gentle and beautiful.

Do you see how the yellow and red orchid, in the photograph, has a Christmas ribbon woven though it as part of the arrangement design? If I play my cards right, it will still be alive this summer, Christmas ribbon and all because I’m afraid to touch it!

The orchid I can really look at is the one on our papers. The potted orchid is shown above on our invitation and is great for a spring occasion you are planning in the near future.

Tea Time

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

note_teacupandsaucer_text

With the wind whipping and the snow falling (I know, I can’t see it, but it’s all we hear about from you that do), it’s the perfect time to pour a cup of tea and take a breather.

It’s tea time; anytime.

Earl Grey Tea Madeleines with Honey

There is actually ‘Afternoon Tea’ and ‘High Tea,’ both giving us the opportunity to enjoy a cup of hot tea with milk and honey.

Afternoon Tea is from 3:00 to 5:00 and High Tea is from 5:00 until 6:00 in the evening. Since High Tea has been replaced by our dinner hour, the Afternoon Tea allows just enough time to get in a bit of relaxation before the dinner hour is looming.

So light a fire, pour a cup of tea, and try some of these Earl Gray Tea Madeleines. Oh, and use your fine china. If you don’t enjoy it, who will?

The teacup design is available on all of our stationery products and is the perfect design to use when you want to have a tea party. Have fun, be a little formal,  invite some friends over for a cup of tea. You’ll be glad you did.

Tradition

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Torrey Pines Christian Church by wendyness.Tradition means bringing something from the past into the present.  It can mean a holiday tradition or something that is passed along from one generation to the next.

I was married on Wednesday, for the third time. I can hear you all gasping and wondering how I might have found the time to marry three times. Really, my life is quite simple and I do take the vows of marriage very seriously.  This is why I married my husband, one man, three separate times.

We were married, the first time, twenty years ago in a church in Upstate New York.  In our early twenties, we were both so nervous that I’m not sure I could tell you exactly what I repeated in front of a hundred family and friends to proclaim my love for my husband.  I stood and held both hands of his hands and repeated what was read to me.  I remember walking on the beach, the next day, hundreds of miles away from the silk and tulle and thinking now that it’s all over, I wish I could have the wedding again and really enjoy it… remember it.

So ten years later, we renewed our vows on the beaches of the Outer Banks.  We stood with our toes in the sand together with our two year old daughter, Lilly.  It was totally different than the first time we said our vows, yet we were making a commitment, the same commitment again. As I stood on the beach, I held the hand of Steve, my daughter, and the leash of my labrador, Rex.

Wednesday, the evening of our 20th anniversary, he surprised me and took me to a church here in La Jolla.  We stood together, again with Lilly, and promised to love and cherish one another for the rest of our lives. Standing at the alter of the little chapel, I held Steve and Lilly’s hands and a fist full of pink gerber daisies.

We think of weddings as the tradition, but I think it is marriage that is a tradition. Marriage is a tradition that should be brought from past to present to remind and reinforce the bond between two people.  To make the promise of love and commitment to one another was memorable, but to see my 12 year old daughter taking it all in… was a gift.

Create traditions within your own families that include your children.  They will take those traditions and make them memories which will last long beyond your lifetime.

enc_weddingcake_textWe only had wedding cake at our first wedding, but it seems like the best design to tie to this blog post.

I do love to use these gift enclosure cards when sending a gift to a bride-to-be. They are colorful without being over the top. This design makes a great stationery gift for a bride also. I’ve sent a stationery set, along with an engraved letter opener, for a memorable gift for the bride and groom.

April Showers bring May flowers, May flowers bring June celebrations

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

2009-april-027April (Wedding) Showers, bring May flowers (in bouquets down the aisle), May flowimg_2693ers bring June gatherings; graduations, family reunions, birthday celebrations and all kinds of reasons to get together with family and friends.

These flowers you see above are from the Carlesbad Flower Fields where wholesalers, from all over the country, purchase their flowers.  March through May they are in full bloom.  It’s a pretty impressive sight.  When I say you’ll see rows and rows of flowers, I’m not kidding.

How about the birthday cake on the right, how cute is it? It’s beautifully made from flowers.  You can order one from 1-800-flowers and have it sent to someone special.  Lilly received this one from a special friend.  We all enjoyed it for a long time (and without calories I might add).

Flowers is the theme this week, so start your garden if you’re on the east coast, enjoy your garden on the west coast.  On either coast, take time to smell the flowers.

Shown here is our flower cart design. A great design for any spring and summer occasion. Here you see it as a Bridal Shower, but we encourage you to use it for family reunions as well as any warm weather celebration.

Happy May Day!

Friday, May 1st, 2009

May Day is on May 1st and denotes the end of winter, a time to celebrate the beginning of spring, and the coming of summer.

It’s celebrated around the world by dancing around the May pole. In some villages part of the celebration comes from bringing the May pole in from the local forest and seeing how high the May pole will stand.  Other villages have permanent poles to stand tall throughout the year.

It is customary to celebrate May Day with flowers.  Just in time, we have a new design with spring flowers to share with you. The spring bouquet is shown below on an invitation.

 ann_springbouquet_text

Our spring bouquet is just the right design for any spring occasion; graduation, Mother’s Day brunch (or stationery as a gift), First Communion, baby announcement…the list goes on.

So enjoy May Day and wash your face with some May Dew… another tradition from days gone by.

Things are starting to Buzz…zz

Friday, April 10th, 2009

There is all kinds of activity around here.  People are buzzing, the air is buzzing. Our bees are certainly buzzing louder than anything!  We have orders coming in for retirement parties (how lovely), bridal showers (how grand), surprise birthday parties (how fun) and my favorite was the elopement (how fabulous)! All asking to use our bumble bee for their special occasions! I love that!

ann_bumblebee_text

I must say that I love our bumble bees, but only on paper and fabrics or on things like these planters below.  Aren’t they nice? I also adore bumble bee pins.

It might surprise you to know that I have an entire wall, in my house, full of honeycomb.  Right.  Bees make me panic because when I see a bee, I know they are searching out my walls.  We don’t have snow removal here, we have bee removal.  We have taken out bricks in our chimney and had huge honeycombs pulled out.  The first time it was REALLY cool, now… not so much.

So let’s keep the bees to pretty things like planters, stickers, and stationery and keep them far from… me, unless it’s the jewelry… honey.

Buzzz…

This is Knot to Miss

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

There are all kinds of occasions coming up where you could be getting together with the gals for showers; wedding or baby, luncheons for birthdays or upcoming retirements.  Any reason you are celebrating could be introduced to your guests with our orange bow stationery lfl_ann_orangebow1pieces.  The great thing is, it is young and vibrant without being over the top.

Speaking of over the top, because I love that too, look at this fabulous bag to go from spring to summer to fall to winter and all around again.

purse

I like it because it has sturdy handles, it’s thin and comfortable to carry and fits more than what you need for the day. These two items are sure to put a spring in your step for spring.
