Cow Jumping Over the Moon

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

ann_cowoverthemoon_text1Hey diddle diddle,

The Cat and the Fiddle,

The Cow jump’d over the Moon,

The little dog laugh’d to see such Craft,

And the Dish ran away with the Spoon.

This simple rhyme goes back to the 1500’s when even then, parents taught their children poems and songs to introduce them to language. Nursery rhymes are important to young children because they learn culture, musical awareness, and memory when learning the rhymes.

Seen here is our Cow Jumping Over the Moon design that is so often used to announce a new baby to family and friends. As I always say, this and all our designs are available on all Letters from Lilly products.

Ever Wanted Your Own Little, Red Golf Cart?

Monday, May 24th, 2010

enc_golfcart_textFor those of you who love our little, red golf cart, you can buy your youngster one of their very own. Wouldn’t it be fun to tool around in this little thing? Perfect for spring and if you add an American flag, you could ride it in your local parade!

So if you decide to buy one of these, be sure to get the Letters from Lilly stationery to match! Shown here are our gift enclosure cards - great for birthday party gifts.  Our red golf cart is also a

popular design for Father’s Day gifts. Give your favorite golfer some note cards, whether he’s a big or small guy.

P.S. Just in case I need to say so, Letters from Lilly has absolutely nothing to do with any golf cart other than the one drawn on our papers. Any craziness you decide to partake in, is up to you and is your responsibility. I don’t own one and I’ve never ordered from the company that sells them. You are responsible for your actions… all you tigers out there.

P.P.S. Yes, I know I blogged about the golf cart last time, but we’ve had a lot of attention paid to it recently and when I came across the real thing, I just had to share!

Bouncing Baby Buggy

Monday, February 8th, 2010

fhp_greenbuggy_text

The history of the baby buggy goes way back 300 years. Even back then, every mother enjoyed a stroll in the sunshine with her baby, but it wasn’t always as easy as it is today.

It is said that William Kent, a garden engineer, invented the first baby buggy for the third Duke of Devonshire. It even had springs so the baby could ride in comfort while pulled by a goat!

The buggy used to be large and cumbersome. It wasn’t until a daughter complained to her father about lugging her stroller from America to England that a collapsible one was invented.

Our baby buggy is one of the original designs of Letters from Lilly and used for expected little boys and girls alike. It’s wonderful for the baby showers when you don’t know what to expect! Available on all our stationery products.

P.S. Yes, this photograph is Lilly, at 5 months.

World Series Baseball

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

corr_baseball_text“Take me out to the ballgame! Take me out with the crowd! Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks…”

I like the World Series as much as the rest of you, but I just can’t get into it unless my Cleveland Indians are playing.  Even then, I remember wanting the series to end so much, and why? Because I lived in the eastern time zone and we’d be up until midnight or later rooting on the Tribe.

I’ve been to the World Series. Twice. I wanted to stay home and watch it on TV. I knew I’d be able to follow it better (I like replays) and I knew I could sell my ticket… for lots. I didn’t know how much until I asked the guy sitting next to me how much he had paid for my neighbor’s seat. When I started to stew about it, my husband told me to leave the guy alone and watch the game. So I did.

Now it’s a little … I don’t know, it’s having trouble catching my attention. I’m getting dinner, listening to homework questions, and it’s warm outside. It was over by 8:30 last night. There isn’t any curling up on the couch to watch it anymore. It’s not 1995 for sure.  Where are my Indians?

So I’m ready for basketball, that’s always been my favorite anyway. Hey, I grew up in upstate New York with the Orangemen and the Pearl… does anyone even remember who he is?

So while baseball is happening, remember that we have a great baseball design for any age baseball fan. I haven’t seen an order come through for a holiday card with the baseball design, but it’s a thought for all you New York Yankees fans! I know the Phillies are still in the game too, I’m watching with one eye.

It’s all in a Name

Monday, October 5th, 2009

ann_bluebow_text

 According to the official authorities,

the top 10 boy names right now are as follows:

1. Jacob
2. Michael
3. Joshua
4. Matthew
5. Ethan
6. Andrew
7. Daniel
8. Anthony
9. Christopher
10. Joseph

Michael was the most popular boy name for years, now Jacob has taken the lead. So do you want to have your little cherub’s name on this list or do you avoid these names just because they are on the list? I guess it’s a matter of opinion.

Personally, I took the family name route. I chose the family name of Lillian because it was my maternal grandfather’s mother’s name. My husband’s great aunt was also named Lillian so it seemed like a good fit for our little girl. In 1997, I didn’t know any little girls named Lillian so I thought I was being quite unique in our selection.

Then it happened, slowly at first. I saw Lilly being ordered on birth announcements I was printing. I thought it was nice that someone had chosen the same name I had for my daughter. Then people started telling me about sisters and friends who had just had their own special Lilly. I specifically remember flipping through a catalogue and seeing a backpack with LILLY cleary printed across the back. Ugh. Now I seemed to be seeing Lilly all over the place.

Whatever name you choose, it could end up on “the list” in the next few years. If you are lucky enough to end up with a creative name, you can always order Letters from Lilly products and we’ll print whatever you choose.  So will companies who make cute little pencil cases with printed pencils, like the one below, printed with none other than JACOB.

pencils Shown above is our Blue Bow design on an announcement, printed with the name Nicholas… number 15 on the baby name list.

Packing my bags

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

It’s that time of year when I pack my bags and head east for the National Stationery Show. As I talked about (typed) earlier, it’s my fifteenth year attending the show.  It’s a great place to reconnect with the industry as a whole and get the creative juices flowing.  I always return home with a bag and brain full of ideas.

Don’t worry, it’s not all work.  I’ll be seeing high school friends and some college pals.  That’s the great thing about NYC, everyone knows someone in New York.  So tomorrow morning I get on a jet plane for my full day of travel.

Speaking of travel, below is our airplane design on a baby announcement.

The airplane is a great design not only for announcing the arrival of your little boy, but also for birthday parties and note cards.

Letters from Lilly is proud to be shown in the latest Stationery Trends magazine.  Our bridal bouquet is on page 13 as one of their Fresh Picks!  Be sure to pick up a copy at the National Stationery Show or on their site www.stationerytrendsmag.com.

A great publication for our industry and we’re proud to be mentioned in the latest issue! Thanks Stationery Trends.

Safe travels and I’ll be back in touch upon my return next week.

Travel Tip: Give your child a drink during take-off & landing. It’s the best things for their ears and they will also be relaxed.
If your child is big, then carry cotton or ask for earplugs as soon as you board the aircraft. Make use of them for take-off then save them for landing as the crew may not have any fresh ones left by then. This helps the kids tremendously if they don’t know how to pop their ears. For more tips, go to flyingwithkids.com.

We proudly announce the arrival of

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009
… a baby elephant!  Yes, it’s true.  This past week San Diego zoo welcomed a bouncing baby boy elephant.  He’s no little baby, weighing in at 226 pounds.  He looks really cute, I can’t wait to go see him at the San Diego Wild Animal Park.  Follow this link to see the live web cam of the baby elephant and other animals at the zoo.
This is one place not to miss megain.smugmug.com
lfl_ann_circustentwhen you visit San Diego.

If you know someone who is expecting a new member of the family, our circus tent design is perfect for using for a baby shower, especially if the mother-to-be hasn’t found out if she is expecting a little girl or a little boy.

Just like all our designs, you can get the elephant printed on all of our products.  Wouldn’t the stickers be a great compliment to these announcements?  I just had someone order them to put on their place cards and favor bags at a shower.  Great idea!

New babies, whether it be elephants or your own little baby, it’s a sure sign of spring.

Darling Dolls and Bountiful Boys

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

I’m always looking for something funny to give friends to pass the time when they are awaiting the new love of their life.  These paper dolls are sure to get a giggle from the gals at a baby shower and might even help make bedrest a little entertaining.

But once that little bundle of joy arrives, there will be no time for paper dolls.  Reality arrives without warning and all the sudden we wonder ‘what exactly did we DO all day’ without this little being demanding every second of our waking AND sleeping moments.

Make your announcement with style using our maryjanes for a girl or red wagon for a boy.  Perhaps you are lucky enough to get T-W-O or … hold your breath… T-H-R-E-E!  Whatever the case, Letters from Lilly has the announcement and stationery to fit your growing family. Now’s probably not the right time to mention that you’ll need to write thank you notes for all those gifts…
