April Showers bring May flowers, May flowers bring June celebrations

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

2009-april-027April (Wedding) Showers, bring May flowers (in bouquets down the aisle), May flowimg_2693ers bring June gatherings; graduations, family reunions, birthday celebrations and all kinds of reasons to get together with family and friends.

These flowers you see above are from the Carlesbad Flower Fields where wholesalers, from all over the country, purchase their flowers.  March through May they are in full bloom.  It’s a pretty impressive sight.  When I say you’ll see rows and rows of flowers, I’m not kidding.

How about the birthday cake on the right, how cute is it? It’s beautifully made from flowers.  You can order one from 1-800-flowers and have it sent to someone special.  Lilly received this one from a special friend.  We all enjoyed it for a long time (and without calories I might add).

Flowers is the theme this week, so start your garden if you’re on the east coast, enjoy your garden on the west coast.  On either coast, take time to smell the flowers.

Shown here is our flower cart design. A great design for any spring and summer occasion. Here you see it as a Bridal Shower, but we encourage you to use it for family reunions as well as any warm weather celebration.

Packing my bags

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

It’s that time of year when I pack my bags and head east for the National Stationery Show. As I talked about (typed) earlier, it’s my fifteenth year attending the show.  It’s a great place to reconnect with the industry as a whole and get the creative juices flowing.  I always return home with a bag and brain full of ideas.

Don’t worry, it’s not all work.  I’ll be seeing high school friends and some college pals.  That’s the great thing about NYC, everyone knows someone in New York.  So tomorrow morning I get on a jet plane for my full day of travel.

Speaking of travel, below is our airplane design on a baby announcement.

The airplane is a great design not only for announcing the arrival of your little boy, but also for birthday parties and note cards.

Letters from Lilly is proud to be shown in the latest Stationery Trends magazine.  Our bridal bouquet is on page 13 as one of their Fresh Picks!  Be sure to pick up a copy at the National Stationery Show or on their site

A great publication for our industry and we’re proud to be mentioned in the latest issue! Thanks Stationery Trends.

Safe travels and I’ll be back in touch upon my return next week.

Travel Tip: Give your child a drink during take-off & landing. It’s the best things for their ears and they will also be relaxed.
If your child is big, then carry cotton or ask for earplugs as soon as you board the aircraft. Make use of them for take-off then save them for landing as the crew may not have any fresh ones left by then. This helps the kids tremendously if they don’t know how to pop their ears. Happy May Day!

Friday, May 1st, 2009

May Day is on May 1st and denotes the end of winter, a time to celebrate the beginning of spring, and the coming of summer.

It’s celebrated around the world by dancing around the May pole. In some villages part of the celebration comes from bringing the May pole in from the local forest and seeing how high the May pole will stand.  Other villages have permanent poles to stand tall throughout the year.

It is customary to celebrate May Day with flowers.  Just in time, we have a new design with spring flowers to share with you. The spring bouquet is shown below on an invitation.

Our spring bouquet is just the right design for any spring occasion; graduation, Mother’s Day brunch (or stationery as a gift), First Communion, baby announcement…the list goes on.

So enjoy May Day and wash your face with some May Dew… another tradition from days gone by.
